In order to improve waste diversion at CSI, CSI Sustainability in partnership with Dining Services began processing all of the pre-consumer food waste in 2020. To keep up with the growing demand we need the Rocket Composter to turn the food waste into compost. The Rocket Composter will allow us to significantly increase compost production for our campus grounds. This initiative will help lower our carbon footprint, enrich our green spaces, and engage students in hands-on sustainability practices.

Please help us to achieve our goal.

“Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

Welcome to the College of Staten Island’s Sustainability website, home to sustainability efforts on campus. The College of Staten Island is committed to its efforts to protect the environment and develop sustainable patterns of development on its 204 acre campus. Through various initiatives, the College is committed to creating a “greener” campus that is mindful of how conservation can improve its future. CSI is currently focusing on sustainability in these areas and planning to expand on these areas in the future: Water, Energy, Transportation, Recycling, Compost and Trash.

Our mission is to hold ourselves at the highest standard of conservation and sustainability. With the implementation of this plan we will become a model for other institutions as well as for our surrounding communities. Please explore our website for various sustainability initiatives.
